Top Tips for Kitten Training

- The best time to train a cat how to be held is when they are a kitten. Make sure it feels secure so that it can’t fall. The way you hold it must be done the same way everyday so they learn that you won’t drop them.
- Kittens need exercise. Make sure you give them toys to play with to avoid them becoming restless and damaging your curtains and furniture!
- Get your kitten toilet trained early on with a litter box and put them in there 10-15 minutes after they wake up and right after a solid food meal. Remind them of the litter box as you would remind a small child if they need to use the rest room.
- A scratching pad is the first accessory to purchase for your kitten – this will avoid damage to your furniture in the long run. Your kitten needs to know where to scratch when it is young and before its nails get stronger.
- Do not shout or hit your kitten – otherwise he or she will begin to fear you and any teaching efforts will be ignored.
- Spend time everyday with your kitten and be patient with it – you will then have a fully house trained cat.
- It is recommended that you don’t leave electrical cords out in the open. They may think they are toys for them to play with and chew on.
