The Longhair Burmilla

Feature Image
By: Shantinga Burmilla Tiffanie Cattery

Also known as Tiffanie, in both the UK & Europe.

If you like the idea of a cat which combines beauty, intelligence and personality and has the added benefit of a luxurious true semi-long coat which requires minimal grooming, then the longhair Burmilla is the cat for you.

Originating from the Burmilla breeding program which used Burmese and Chinchilla Persians as its foundation breeds, the semi longhair version is produced from matings of 1 st generation Burmilla's onwards together then either Shorthair Burmilla to Longhair Burmilla or Longhair Burmilla to Longhair Burmilla. Our Longhair Burmilla's are bred & judged to the NSW Cat Fancier Association Burmilla standard with only the added addition of the semi-longhair coat description.

The Longhair Burmilla is an extremely social, playful and affectionate breed, with an extrovert nature that makes them a great children's companion. They also adjust well to living in a multi pet household who also fits just as well into a home with singles, couples or the elderly. It is a cat which is very easy to train, is happy and undemanding. All this makes it an ideal indoor pet which copes easily as well with home or apartment living.

The Eyes Have It
One of the most stunning features of this breed is the beautiful vivid green eyes which can take up to two years to develop - and in kittens presents as a wonderful aquamarine. The tipped and shaded varieties also display eye and lip liner which gives them such an appealing appearance. The red to pink nose leather is lined in black however the smoke varieties display nose leather compatible with their coat patterns.

Colours and Coat Patterns
The Long & Shorthair Burmilla comes in five colours - black, brown, blue, chocolate and lilac and two coat patterns which are:

  • Tipped which look almost pure white in colour but appears to have a very slight haze of colour created by a coloured tip present on the ends of each snow white hair
  • Shaded which appear mainly white in colour with a mantle of darker colour on the ends of each hair that gives them a coat with a sparkling silver shimmer effect.
