Obedience

All dogs respond to "positive reward" based training. Redgum Kennels offers dog owners of all breeds a range of proven training services.

Prior to booking your dog into any obedience programme it is important to have the trainer assess your dogs potential to then select a suitable programme from the various levels of training that are available.

Puppy Head Start

Private Tuition - When Your puppy has completed its vaccination programme at around four months of age private one hour lessons are available at our kennels or at your home. This introduction programme is designed to start positive reward based training as your dog will always enjoy and respond quickly to handler commands.

Exercises:

Walking to heel using collar and lead
Sit on command
Drop on command
Come when called
Teaching your dog good manners. No biting or jumping. Problem solving techniques and discipline procedures. No hitting.
- Learn to use the correct tone of voice for praise - commands - discipline.
- Learn to understand and think like a dog.
- Socialising your dog with people and animals. How to avoid dog to dog aggression.

These private head start lessons can include the whole family so your dog will respond to all family members.

7 Day Live-In (On Lead) Course

Level 1 - After having your dog assessed this boarding programme includes the following commands.

Exercises:

Heel on Lead - fast, medium and slow paces. Left and right about turns.
Sit on command
Drop on command
Come on command
Finish exercise, (return to heel)

Upon completion of all live in training courses the owner is given a demonstration and a written report.

The owner then receives a private lesson. This is followed up with obedience classes on Saturday mornings from 8.30am to 10.00am. Private lessons can be arranged as an extra service.

Dog owners can attend as many class lessons as they like or come for refresher lessons at any time at no extra cost.

14 Day Live-In (Off Lead) Course

Level 2 - This popular course expands our seven day programme to a level most dog owners feel adequately gives them the knowledge and skill required to handle their dog on and off lead.

Exercises:

Heel on lead - fast, medium and slow paces. Left and right about turns
Sit on command on lead
Sit on command off lead, (2 mins)
Auto sit - when handler stops
Drop on command
Drop stay (3 mins)
Stand for examination
Stand stay (1 min)
Recall on command
Finish exercise (return to heel)

4 Week Live-In (Off Lead) Course

Level 3 - (Advanced Obedience) - Having completed Level 2 obedience this programme is easy to obtain. This course can be completed as a live-in programme or private weekly tuition.

Exercises:

Off lead heeling - fast, medium, slow paces
Out of sight stays - 1 min stand -3 min sit - 5 min drop
Drop on recall at distance
Drop on hand signal at distance
Sit on hand signal at distance
Sit up from drop at distance
Recall from - drop - sit - stand at distance and return to heel

Upon completion of all live in training courses the owner is given a demonstration and a written report.

Private (1 Hour) Lessons

Private one hour lessons are available by appointment for puppy lessons, problem solving, refresher lessons and advanced obedience.

Private Home Lessons

For your convenience one hour lessons are available by appointment Monday - Saturday by one of our professional Trainers. This service is currently available at $50.00 per one hour lesson - plus travel.

Private Tuition (On Lead) Course

Level 1 - The same as our 7 day programme. Clients can make weekly appointments to suit from Monday to Saturday. You are able to undertake as many lessons necessary to achieve the desired results.

Private Tuition (Off Lead) Course

Level 2 - The same as our 14 day programme. Clients can make weekly appointments to suit from Monday to Saturday. You are able to undertake as many lessons necessary to achieve the desired results.

Private Tuition (Advanced) Course

Level 3 - The same as our 4 week programme. Clients can make weekly appointments to suit from Monday to Saturday. You are able to undertake as many lessons necessary to achieve the desired results.
