Cremation Options
Cremation for Domestic Pets
Standard Options
Niche Box
The ashes are contained in a Niche box, the same type as used for humans.
You may opt to have the niche box sealed as it is waterproof and very tough, allowing it to be buried in the garden. If burying the niche box in the garden you may like to consider the optional sandstone plaque to mark the location with your pet's name and a personal message. When moving house in the future you can uncover the box and take it with you.
Alternatively you may choose to have the box unsealed in case you wish to transfer the ashes to a different container at a later stage.
Drawstring Bag
Many owners choose the drawstring bag if intending to scatter the ashes at some stage or you would simply like to tuck them away at home. In both the niche box and the drawstring bag the ashes are sealed in a snap lock bag inside to help prevent any accidents.
WA Sandstone Plaque for the Garden (optional)
The garden plaque is made out of classic West Australian Sandstone. This style of plaque has proven to be a popular option over the years for ashes which are being buried in the garden. The black anodized aluminum nameplate fixed to it is about the size of a business card. Being aluminum the nameplates will not rust and we have used exactly the same nameplates in our cemetery since our begining more than 20 years ago.
The garden plaque is available in two sizes. The small for $35 is 15cm x 15cm or the large for $45 is 30cm x 15cm.
Cherry Wooden Box Option
The cherry coloured wooden box with nameplate contains the ashes inside a snaplock bag and then a drawstring bag making it ideal for keeping inside the home.
The extra cost to add to the standard cremation fee is: Small $45, Medium $55, Large $65.
Urn Option
When having a pet cremated through Lawnswood the extra cost for choosing an urn is:
- Small pets (under 10kg).......................................$45
- Medium Pets (10 - 24kg)......................................$55
- Large Pets (25 - 49kg)..........................................$65
They do provide an attractive option for keeping ashes in the home. However we like owners to carefully consider their particular home environment and the likelihood of the urn being broken by children or other pets knocking it off its resting place.
Some people also move house quite often these days and this can be a risk to the urn. If you think that you could be in a high risk category then we urge you to consider either the wooden box or the garden option.
Urns are available in five standard colours shown alongside the urn pictured below. Sweetie's urn pictured is in the standard cream that has proven most popular.
Other custom colours are available and in some cases can also be marbled together to create an attractive effect. If you are considering a marbled urn then speak to Sue at our office who can recommend some combinations.
Cremation for Large Animals
Ethics
A question many people ask is whether it is their pet's ashes that they will be getting back.
Yes. Nothing is more important and I put my family's name and faces to our service along with my staff who all proudly have their name and photos on our web page as well.
All our staff are animal lovers and have been through something similar to what you are about to.
Why use such a service?
We make a significant investment in our horse's or pet's health during its life because they are an important and much loved member of the family.
When nature takes its inevitable course, owners feel that this member of the family deserves respect like any other.
Many people either agist or lease land, or don't want to leave the horse or pet behind when moving. Many councils prohibit the burial of animals in small lots and some people do not have the physical ability to bury a large pet.
To ease the initial cost of having a large animal cremated we offer a pre-payment facility allowing you to build up credit in your account over a period of time before the event.
Our advice is to plan ahead for that inevitable final day.
It is a sad and difficult time, and if you have a plan in place, this will help to reduce your stress when the time comes.
We know, we've been through it ourselves.
How does it work?
We will quote you a price to arrange the urgent collection of your large animal and confirm payment arrangements.
Upon our arrival we will assess the situation and explain the process to you in person, including how we will lift your horse onto our customised small truck which has a removable canopy. We will lift, not winch, your horse onto our vehicle with as much dignity as possible.
If opting for engraving, we will leave a form with you to complete in the following week. It is often best to take some time to get through the first few days before putting pen to paper.
The cremation is done immediately and we hold the ashes until you instruct us as to what vessel you would like the ashes returned in.
Once our service is complete we will phone you to arrange the return of your horses' ashes.
Polished Wooden Box
This beautiful smooth box has a hinged lid and nameplate on top engraved with your personal message. They are available in either mantlepiece size with a small proportion of the ashes, or full size containing all of the ashes.
Ceramic Urn
These urns are available in a range of colours and sizes ranging from simple small proportions of a horses ashes to full size urns containing 100% of the ashes.
Outdoor Plaque
We have a range of options for outdoor plaques ranging from a $45 Kimberley Quartzite to custom made headstones with the image of your companion.

If you don't choose one of the options above then we can return all of the ashes to you in a simple and practical cardboard carry box with the ashes contained within a bag. From here you may choose to transfer the ashes into a container you already have or scatter them back to nature.
