Combined Training Competition

This day combines a dressage (obedience) test, and a showjumping course, with the scores added together to get a result. We have very simple tests, and low jumps so that everyone can have a great day.

Cost: $40 for the day, + $20 for the use of a school horse.

Practice showjumping will also be available after the competition rounds at no extra charge.

If you wish to ride in only the dressage or the showjumping, cost is $20 + $20 school horse hire.

Dressage Training Days

We will be holding regular Dressage Training Days (or Protocol Days) this year. Here, you will be able to ride a test of between Prepatory and Novice level, followed immediately by comments and hints by the judge. You can discuss any queries, and then re-ride the test to see if you can improve your score. It doesn't matter if you've never ridden in a dressagetest before - all levels and abilities are welcome, especially those starting out. No dressing up, plaiting or bridle number is required, and you do not need to be a member of the EFA or a Club to participate.

This is your chance to talk to your judge about your scores!

Cost: $40 (to ride your test twice), on your horse or $60 to ride one of ours.

Showjumping Training Days

We will be holding regular Showjumping Training Days this year. You may ride the course as many times as you wish, and at any height you feel confident to jump. You will be awarded a "Clear Round Certificate" each time you complete the course without knocking any poles down, stopping or running out at any jumps, and finishing within the time limit. All levels and abilities are welcome, especially those starting out. No dressing up or plaiting is required, and you do not need to be a member of the EFA or a Club to participate.

Courses will start at 10.00am at cross-rail height (very small) and the jumps will be set higher as the day proceeds.

Cost: $40 for the day on your horse or $60 to ride one of ours.

Horsemanship Training Days

If you would like to understand more about why horses behave the way they do, or want to learn how to be more effective in the way you handle a horse, this day is for you.

We will work on general horse handling and on identifying particular areas of concern for our participants. We will start with "ground work" (unmounted), such as putting on the halter or bridle, leading, and improving the horse's "manner" when you are around him. We will then progress to asking for specific tasks, such as picking up his feet, lungeing, long reining or free jumping. For those who want to ride, the amount and level of riding will depend on each person's needs, working on improving the rider's balance and effectiveness, as well as a better understanding or horse behaviour in an effort to be able to prevent those "scary moments" we all have. We will have various groups throughout the day of 1 ½ hours each, tailored to each participant's experience and goals. You may use one of our reliable school horses, or bring your own. If you don't have a float, transport for your horse can be arranged.

Cost is $60 to use one of our horses, or $40 if you bring your own.
