Dog School & Puppy School
Our dog school or group classes are held in Ringwood on a Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings. All classes are run by fully qualified instructors. All of our instructors have gone through a minimum 12 month training course were they partake in at least 100 hours of on the job training at Eastern Companion Dog Training’s training centre, they train at least 100 dogs of varying breeds, age and gender, and they attend 12 lectures on Psychology and learning principles. Furthermore, all instructors have attended seminars by some of the leading dog trainers in the world. Many instructors have also continued their training further and become qualified Canine Behaviourists and Psychologists. We assign many instructors to each class and provide time in between classes so that customers have plenty of opportunity to seek one-on-one assistance from their instructors.
The allocation of multiple instructors to each dog school or puppy school class enables us to provide one of the best instructor to student ratios in the dog training industry today. At our dog school and puppy school classes on average there will be one instructor to every six students within that class. This in combination with the time allocated before and after class to seek individual assistance means that the customers are provided with all the help they need.
Puppy Class - Puppy School
At Eastern Companion Dog Training, we believe socialising a dog is very important. As part of our dog school classes we run a separate socialisation section where we bring out all types of objects that a dog may come into contact with that may make a dog uncomfortable or anxious. We expose the dog to the object in a way that teaches the dog that the object is nothing to fear. This of course makes the dog easier to handle in circumstances were it may come into contact with such objects as well as teaches the owner how to deal with objects that may come along unexpectedly and scare the dog. These objects we bring to each dog school and puppy school class, include lawn mowers, whipper snipers, motorbikes, horses, cats and many, many more. This class is included in your obedience class with at no additional cost.
A question that a lot of our dog school customers ask is "can they train their dog to "their" individual requirements not those of the other class members?" Our dog school classes, along with our training system, allow for a lot of flexibility in the training process, allowing us to tailor the training to each customers preferences. This also enables us to rectify behavioural problems that can become difficult for the owner to deal with. Behaviours such as jumping up, dog barking, aggression etc can all be addressed in our training classes.
At Eastern Companion Dog Training, we believe that dog training, like almost every other profession and industry in the world, is constantly evolving and at Eastern Companion Dog Training, we pride ourselves at being at the forefront of this evolution. One of the biggest areas evolving in dog training at the moment is in the equipment used in this training. To this end all our trainers are educated in the correct technique with every varying piece of equipment used in modern dog training, and we can assist you with the correct training technique no matter what equipment you seek to use to help train your dog. We do not specify that you must train with any particular piece of equipment but rather we will give you our knowledge as to the pros and cons of each piece of training equipment or technique allowing you to make an educated decision as to which piece of equipment or technique will work best for you and thus help you get the best out of which ever piece of equipment you choose.
Further to this we pride ourselves on developing techniques that are both easy for the customer to use and implement, that are quick to teach and are very gentle to the dog.
