Professional Pet Care Advice
Did you know?
- Dogs and Exercise:
- Dogs of all breeds require regular exercise to stay fit and in good shape. Exercise prevents them from becoming overweight, which can lead to health problems. It also enriches your dogs life by providing mental stimulation and preventing boredom. They also encounter other dogs and people on their walks, which increase their socialisation skills and self-confidence.
- Vitamin D
- Vitamin D is good for your dog and they love soaking up the sun all year round.
- Ear Infections:
- Are common in dogs, particularly ones with floppy ears. Signs of ear infections are shaking of the head, not liking their ears being touched, and redness. To help prevent ear infections always dry your dogs’ ears after swimming and bathing, if possible not getting water into the ear, and cleaning any build up of wax. If signs are visible, see your veterinarian.
- Keeping your Pet Hydrated:
- Dogs as well as other pets require constant access to clean fresh water at all times all year round.
- Washing your Pet:
- Generally never use human shampoo on your pet as it strips their skin of its oil film, which acts as a protective barrier to their skin. Instead use a dog specific shampoo, as humans and dogs have different PH levels.
- Cats and Exercise:
- Although they sleep up to 18 hours a day, cats also need exercise. A great source of exercise for cats is playing with them or giving them some cat toys for them to play with.
- To Neuter or not to Neuter?:
- Desexing your pet promotes responsible pet ownership by reducing unwanted litters. It is the most common surgical procedure performed on companion animals in Australia.
