Trail Rides

One hour Family Trail $40 per person

The one family hour trail is great for all the family, it is a gentle ride with an option to walk or trot (the trot option depends on individual riders ability). The ride passes through local bush up to a scenic lookout and then back to the Oaks Service Station. It is great fun for the whole family – even for those parents who are first time riders.

Our staff chose a horse to match your ability and give you basic instruction before leaving the yards, children who require assistance are led along the trail by a staff member. Minimum age of 6 years.

Two Hour Ridge Trail $70 per person

The two ridge hour ride is recommended for beginner and experienced adults alike. The ride is long enough that beginner riders can begin to build a relationship with their horse. There are a number of areas designated to trotting for those who want to try.

The ride takes you through unique grass tree forests, with scenic views over the Berserker Ranges and the regions volcanic plugs. The ride is exciting and challenging and will give you breath taking views from the top of the ridge. This ride is suitable for teenagers upwards.

The three hour adventure trail is not for the feint hearted. We recommend this ride for experienced riders and those you who are active, fit and looking for adventure. The ride returns via the grass tree forest taking in the scenic views of the Berseker Ranges and local volcanic plugs.

There is a total of four hours of riding, we provide the food and some camp gear. Camps are by arrangement only – minimum of eight riders.

Led Pony Trail $15 per child

For those members of the family who are a little young to join us on our one hour trail we have a 30 minute led pony trail which take the budding young rider through our walking trail with the added safety of a guide on foot leading the pony. Led pony trails depart after our weekend lessons and at limited times through the week. For children aged 4 years and upwards.

Tailored Rides

We can tailor rides to suit groups, schools, corporate groups and private functions. We can organise a billy tea stop, or include instruction to fit in with school activities.

Lessons

Horsemanship Classes $40

Saturday and Sunday mornings. The morning classes run throughout the year, starting at 9am during the winter months and 8am in summer the classes run for 2 hours. The students assist saddling up their horses, have a brief lesson on the ground on subjects such as; horse nutrition, first aid, tack, then have a lesson on horse back.

The classes are divided into two sessions on the weekends, students being placed in a class according to their riding ability. Our riding lessons concentrate on teaching good control of the horse at the walk, trot and canter.

Classes are finished with games on horseback. These classes are very popular, currently there is no waiting list for a permanent place, please call Madeline for more information.

Private Lessons

These are aimed to target any specific area you want to work on, including ground control, first aid for horses, nutrition, floating and of course the riding skills you want to learn or improve.

We can use our horses or yours, which ever you prefer.

The lesson is a minimum of 1.5 hours including the ground work.

Holiday Classes $45

These run every Wednesday during the school holidays (according to the state school terms), for those kids who would like to come and try riding a horse or are too busy during term time with other sports.

The riders spend the whole morning with us (8am - 11.30am during summer), we teach basic riding skills, horsemanship on the ground and at the end of the class we play games on horseback lessons, it is lots of fun and great value.

Horse Breaking and Training

Breaking In

We have always broken in horses for our family and friends and have recently opened this service up to the general public. Glen breaks the horses in using kind and humane methods, a blend of the Jefferies method, natural horsemanship and other traditional styles.

This is not your usual station break in, we take the time to ride the horse, socialise the horse and make it rideable by any average rider (although we do recommend that an experienced person/trainer rides the horse on a regular basis after its initial break in).

We keep the horses on site for four weeks, they are exposed to the hustle and bustle of the trail rides and a have the advantage of being able to be ridden along on trails. On average the young horses are given a minimum of 30 hours of trail riding during their 4 week stay. This work is calm and steady and usually gives you a sound, sensible end product, which is ready to begin its' training in any discipline.

At the end of their stay, depending on the horses' age, they are cantering off on the right leads, moving off the leg and they are returned with four shoes.

We are happy to incorporate any other training which may be required. We can also work the horse after its initial breaking in. Whether it be an increased length of stay with us or returned to us after a spell of 6 - 12 months.

Please call to discuss current costs

Includes; feed, 4 shoes (fitted to the horse), min of 25 hours of riding, out of the yard.

Colts and horses aged 4 years or more may cost extra or be refused.

Handling

We can start your foal, to make it easier to handle, feed, float and rug. The education will start on site at your place and depending on how long you would like us to train it we can teach it manners at our yards.

Training & Working

What better place to give a horse lots of steady work than at a trail riding centre. We have the trails and the time to give young horses that work they require to become a finished product. Our trails are mostly walking, out in the bush and go for one, two and three hours. Generally due to the nature of our business we ride almost every day.

A horse which has only recently been broken in can continue its education and socialise with other horses.

Please call to discuss current costs – included in fee is agistment, feed and training.

Re-education

Problems floating, picking up hooves, getting the right lead, tying up, nose in the air, lack of manners….

Let us help you fix them, give us a call and we will see what we can do for you, depending on the problem we may come to you, keep the horse with us for a week or it may require that we show you what you need to do to correct the problem yourself.
