Curlicue Selkirk Rex is a member of the Feline Control Council of Victoria Inc. We aim to breed towards the Standard as described by the FCCV Inc. while establishing a wide gene pool for this developing breed.
It’s important that we breed for health and temperament in our kittens. To assist us in this endeavour, we only breed from cats which are free of Polycystic Kidney Disease.
My interest in the Selkirk Rex Cat was sparked in 1999 when I saw a photo of a golden Selkirk with the most magnificent coat in an international cat magazine. I joined a web group in America where I watched, listened, and learned which boost my interest in this breed of cat further.
The Selkirk Rex originates in USA. A Persian breeder (Jerri Newman) was given a shelter cat who, when mated with one of her black Persians, produced 6 kittens, 3 of these had curly coats. Subsequent mating established that curly coat gene was a dominant gene.
As this breed is still being established, we are allowed to outcross to Persians, British Shorthairs, and Exotic Shorthairs. Consequently, Selkirk Rex displays many of the characteristics of these breeds.

There is nothing left to do but to get to know your new kitten and enjoy their company. Also known as the cat in sheeps clothing the Selkirk Rex is relaxed and friendly. They love a game of "chase the paper ball" or "catch that dangling thing". They will enjoy a cuddle on your lap, then race off to do their own thing for a while. One of the easiest cats to live with, their relaxed nature makes them perfect for families, couples or singles. Recommended as indoor pets, the Selkirk will welcome you home and be perfectly happy to spend time by themselves as well.

Show, breed, and pet quality kittens go to their new homes after 12 weeks of age. At that stage they will have been spayed/neutered and will have had 2 of their 3 F4 vaccinations against Feline Infectious Enteritis, Feline Upper Respiratory disease and Chlamydia.
