Active Pet Rehabilitation offers a companion animal rehabilitation referral service for veterinary practice and pet owners.

Active Pet Rehabilitation is a small business set up by Carmel Keylock for the express purpose of helping vets and owners restore pets to functional mobility after accidents or disease.

The only aim of our business is to help owners achieve this. If money for high tech therapies or time to perform exercises is limited, then we still aim to achieve the best results possible for the pet under their owners’ individual circumstances.

About Carmel Keylock
Carmel was born and raised in Western Australia. She's a qualified veterinary nurse from (then) Bentley Technical College in 1984, working within the vet profession ever since. Carmel has been involved in first opinion and referral practice in small animal and equine disciplines here and in the U.K..

In 1994, Carmel persued veterinary physiotherapy in the U.K., becoming a member of the National Association of Veterinary Physiotherapists in 1996. Carmel is currently extending her qualifications, working towards becoming a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner with the University of Tennessee U.S.A.

Now, Carmel is putting her experience to good use for veterinary practices and their patients in Perth.

  • Pet Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation therapies are an excellent aid following muscle injury and orthopaedic surgery (for bones and joints), or to help reduce the discomfort of osteo-arthritis. Rehabilitation techniques are also helpful when pets are recovering from all types of nerve injuries, including paralysis.

Pain Management is a major part of rehabilitation for all pets. All rehabilitation techniques used help to improve comfort levels long term, and restore normal movement patterns. Most therapies used are non-painful. If your pet is suffering from pain some specific therapies can be used to stop this.

Solutions for Vets
Focused on current best practice in companion animal rehabilitation, we can provide your practice with a professional, independent service. Giving your patients improved quality of life, your clients continuity of care and you, peace of mind.

Rehabilitation therapies for your clients’ pets needn’t be cost prohibitive. Many cases can be managed with initial advice and telephone updates.

Patients will only be seen on veterinary referral. It's up to the vet whether there is a letter/email/telephone conversation to start the process.

Putting pets first means a diagnosis provided with information on current medication, results of any current x-rays and/or further diagnostic tests will ensure that the most benefit can be achieved from rehabilitation techniques.

If owner circumstances limit the amount of diagnostic work-up before rehabilitation referral, therapies available may have to be restricted to avoid the possibility of inappropriate treatments.
